This is one important packing essential: Fuel and H2o. Did you like what I did there? Food and water, but science-y and cool sounding… Back to how much to pack: Unlimited. I’m serious, this is one of the reasons why you need a jumbo bag. I will tell you some good assorted grain free choices/brands I like! Larabars are one of the best packaged snacks (besides Simple Squares) I’ve discovered going wheat/rice/oat free! I’ve even seen recipes where people are recreating those bars, but I don’t have time for that, as great as it looks! The nice thing is that you don’t have to bake them if you don’t have time, because as it’s probably cheaper, there are so many different flavors already (with clean ingredients) in Larabars!!! Speaking of, I LOVE the one with chocolate… like a brownie:) A nice fat, protein, and carb boost when all you have time for is to stuff one big bite into your body! Another option is dried fruit. FRUIT!!! As it can be expensive, you can again dehydrate your own, but if you want convenience, many places have energy-boosting fruits on-the-go, too! I especially like dried apples, as they aren’t as messy as some dried fruits, and an apple a day may just keep the doctor away! “Bare” apple chips are awesome, just yummy dried apples! Big bags, small bags, even some with cinnamon.. Mmmm:) One other great find I have to share with you are Simple Squares. These are amazing, and I just found them at PCC!!! Basically just coconut, honey, nuts, and there are some delish spices bursting with-in each and every one. NO BROWN RICE SYRUP!!!! Yipee for us grain-free. Never forget that nuts and fruit are your friend. Well, unless you’re allergic to nuts or fruit, then you have to be creative with your food on-the-go! Whenever I have time, some days I will even cut up fresh fruit to throw in a tin. Otherwise, I either stick to dried fruit/bars, or my trail mix combo. You ready for ingredients to my trail mix??? Not that unique, but it all balances out really well in flavors, carbs, fat, and protein! Perfect amount to fill my belly, and hopefully satisfy your taste buds!
- a couple squares of chocolate (mint is totally my friend)
- 4-5 banana chips
- a tablespoon of unsweetened shredded coconut.
- a couple teaspoons of goji berries
- 5-6 dried cherries/tablespoon of raisins
- 7-8 almonds, walnuts, cashews, or a MIX
Yummm… Balanced mix, and good for those taste buds!
Now that you know what snacks I supply my dance bag with, make sure you keep you eyes peeled for more grain-free discoveries you find/share, or for more brands I post. To sum this up, if you aren’t wheat/rice/oat free BUT are a definite dancer, feel free to use these ideas, too! I love whole foods. Of course, if you can eat crackers, do it. DON’T feel bad. If I wasn’t allergic to grain, I would eat crackers, just moderation is key, right? Being grain-free has helped me discover delicious foods that are whole foods, and DELISH!! Join me on my journeys…
